The schedule has been split into four blocks of 50 days with the first running from today until March 8.

During that time, the logistics team will be tasked with finalising the planning for bringing 800 boats and 315 horses to Rio de Janeiro for the sailing and equestrian events, as well as providing equipment for 37 competition venues, the International Broadcast Centre, Main Press Centre, Athletes’ Village and other accommodation clusters.

The printing of Olympic Games tickets is set to begin next month, while the second wave of auditions for those volunteering to join the casts of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies is scheduled to start on February 25.

The restaurant in the Olympic Village, which will host and feed 10,500 athletes during the Games, is also due to be furnished during the first 50-day period with the medals, slogan and official song of the Rio 2016 Games, as well as the workforce uniform, entering the final stages of production.

Arguably the highlight of the second 50-day period, from March 8 to April 27, will be the lighting of the Olympic Flame in the Greek city of Olympia on April 21.

The Flame is then due be carried on a relay through Greece until April 27, when it will be handed over to Brazil during a ceremony at Athens’ Panathinaiko Stadium, which hosted the first Modern Olympics in 1896.

From March, Brazilian educational channel TV Escola is set to start broadcasting Transforma no Ar - a series of four monthly programmes with an athlete and a teacher giving tips on how to teach different sports to students.

The third 50-day period from April 27 to June 16 is headlined by the start of the Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay, which is scheduled to begin in Brazil’s capital Brasília on May 3.

That same day, the pre-Games app and website is due to go live, providing coverage of the Torch Relay.

After leaving Greece, the Torch will be on display at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne until May 2 before it sets off for Brazil.

Rehearsals for the Opening and Closing ceremonies are set to begin at the Moça Bonita Stadium in May, with production of the costumes, floats, props and scenery getting under way too.

Preparations for the Maracanã Stadium hosting the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Olympic football matches will start at the end of May, it is claimed.

The design of the tickets for the Games is also due to be revealed during the third period, while the Rio 2016 culture programme Abraça is set to be declared open.

The Torch Relay will also enter its final stretch en-route to the Maracanã.

Fans will start to receive their Olympic Games tickets in June, while the Olympic Village is due to be opened on July 24.

Four days prior to the Opening Ceremony, the Games-time website and app is set to go live, providing athlete profiles, live results, news, videos, photos, live blogs and full integration of social media networks.

The final 24 test events will take place throughout the next seven months, finishing with athletics at the Olympic Stadium from May 14 to 16.

The Future Arena will be the last of the new venues to host a test event, with a handball tournament being held from April 29 to May 1.
