Abigail Vieira is the first ever athlete from Trinidad & Tobago to participate at a Youth Olympic Games, and the first Alpine Skier from TTO to participate at any Olympic event. Abigail’s Team staff includes her Father Richard Vieira as Chef de Mission, her sister Ria Vieira as assistant coach, and her mother Alison as support staff. Her coach is Lori Ford. She is supported by team staff Mirella Arnhold, Ex-Alpine Skier and first ever Olympian in that discipline for Brazil. The team is completed by Nick Lau, a Nordic skier for Trinidad & Tobago and secretary general of the Trinidad & Tobago Snowsports Federation.

Daily Summary: After arriving in Lausanne on January 7th, Abigail’s luggage unfortunately did not make it here until the next day. This made today, January 9th, her first day of training up on the mountain. Abigail participated in the official Super G training.
In the evening Abigail marched as first every TTO athlete in a Youth Olympic Games Opening ceremony. Moreover Abigail was the flagbearer for her nation.

Preview for tomorrow: on January 10th, Abigali will compete in the Alpine Skiing Super G event in Les Diablerets.

Abigail Vieira Quotes from 09/01/2020:

Today on the slopes: “The snow was really nice today in the free runs. It has been really awesome: my first day skiing in the alps. “

About Alpine skiing Super G course: “The beginning is fairly flat and it’s crucial to build up some speed. Then it really gets going in the middle section. Today’s conditions were super nice out there. The run is so much better than any courses I’ve ever run.”

About her Skiing style: “As a skier you can ski with aggression or you can ski very technically. I am not such a technical skier yet, but I ski with a lot of aggression. On every run, I try to ski as hard as I can.”
