The 2024 Olympic Day activities highlighted all the values of Olympism. On Friday, June 21st, the event bridged the gap between National Sporting Organizations and the youth of our country, involving 300 students primarily from primary schools across Trinidad and Tobago, reaching as far as Biche.

The day's proceedings were officially opened by Ms. Diane Henderson, President of the TT Olympic Committee, along with distinguished guests: Deputy Permanent Secretary, Beverly Reid-Samuel from the Ministry of Sport & Community Development, Mr. Derek Parker, Economic Officer of the French Embassy, Mr. Joel Sampson, Secretary for Community and Youth Development and Sport of the Tobago House of Assembly, and one of TTOC’s Top partner, Mrs. Neela Moonilal-Kissoon, Group Deputy-CEO, Operations of First Citizens Bank.

A special highlight was the presence of our own sporting hero, Mr. Hasely Crawford, the 1976 100m Gold Medalist, who was the first to sign the Paris2024/Trinidad and Tobago banner. Along with Winter Olympian, Mr. Gregory Sun, the first TeamTTO Bobsleigh athlete.

The event featured 18 sports, each with creative activities to engage the students. Among the sports represented were surfing, weightlifting, karate, skateboarding, tennis, rugby, hockey, handball, and netball.

Organizations such as Anti-Doping, I Choose Sport from the MSCD, as well as First Citizens Bank, Subway, Guiltless Yoghurt, Bermudez, Blue Waters, Toppers, and Holiday Snacks supported the event. The TTOC extends it gratitude and heartfelt thanks to them and to our major sponsor, German based, PUMA.

Olympic Day and its activities provided opportunities that encouraged youth and young people to change lives, develop physical skills, and create lasting memories. As Olympism suggests, sport can build friendships and foster strength and unity.

On Sunday, June 23rd, Olympic Day brought together 31 teams of 5 members each at the Queen’s Park Savannah for a day of healthy camaraderie and competition.
